Pinelopi Koujianou Goldberg Honored with 2026 Bodossaki Excellence Award
The award recognizes Goldberg’s contributions to global trade, development economics, and evidence-based policy.
Pinelopi Koujianou Goldberg, the William Nordhaus Professor of Economics and Global Affairs at Yale University, has received the 2026 Bodossaki Excellence Award in Social Sciences.
The Bodossaki Excellence Award is awarded biennially to Greek scientists whose life’s work has contributed decisively to the advancement of science. Goldberg received the award at a ceremony on June 25, 2026, at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall.

Goldberg is an applied microeconomist whose work has shaped the empirical study of global trade and development. Her research combines microeconomic data with structural economic models to examine how trade policies affect productivity, consumer welfare, poverty, inequality, and economic growth, particularly in developing countries. Her recent work examines shifts in globalization, including the resurgence of protectionism, the U.S.-China trade war, industrial policy, and gender-based barriers to economic participation and growth.
Goldberg holds a joint appointment in the Yale Department of Economics and the Jackson School of Global Affairs and is an affiliate of Yale’s Economic Growth Center. From 2018 to 2020, she served as Chief Economist of the World Bank Group. She has also served as President of the Econometric Society, Vice President of the American Economic Association, and Editor-in-Chief of the American Economic Review.
