The Department of Economics Welcomes New Faculty For Fall 2026
The Yale Department of Economics is pleased to welcome three new faculty members for the 2026–27 academic year.
Our new colleagues bring expertise across a range of fields, including economic theory, industrial organization, market design, contract theory, and matching. Their work will contribute to the Department’s research and teaching and strengthen an already vibrant community of scholars at Yale.
Joining the Department this fall are:
Hector Chade, Senior Research Scientist
Adam Kapor, Associate Professor
Sofia Moroni, Lecturer, Associate Research Scientist
We are delighted to welcome them to Yale and introduce their work below.
Hector Chade
Hector Chade joins Yale as a Senior Research Scientist. His research is in economic theory, with particular interests in contract theory, and matching models with frictions. His work includes research on simultaneous search, college admissions, contracts with moral hazard and adverse selection, and matching problems under uncertainty. It has been published in journals such as Econometrica, American Economic Review, and Review of Economic Studies.
Before joining Yale, Chade was the Rondthaler Chair in Economics and a professor in the Department of Economics at Arizona State University, where he had been a faculty member since 1997. He received his PhD and MS in Economics from the University of Illinois and his undergraduate degree in economics from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Argentina.
Adam Kapor
Adam Kapor joins as an Associate Professor of Economics. His research is in the areas of industrial organization and empirical market design, with a focus on education markets. He studies how students and families choose schools and colleges, how educational institutions compete for students, and the role of information in parents', students' and institutions' decisions. His work combines structural modeling with field experiments and data on participants' beliefs, preferences, and decisions to study topics including school choice, college admissions, and centralized assignment systems.
Prior to joining Yale, Kapor was an Associate Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University. He received his PhD in Economics from Yale University in 2015.
Sofia Moroni
Sofia Moroni joins as a Lecturer and Associate Research Scientist. She is an economic theorist whose research focuses on dynamic games, contract theory, and matching markets. Her work examines how people and organizations make decisions when information is imperfect or unevenly distributed, with research ranging from questions about equilibrium and optimal contracts to empirical applications using administrative data.
Before joining Yale, Moroni was a research scholar and lecturer at Princeton University, and previously served on the economics faculty at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her PhD in Economics from Yale in 2015.
