The Economics group at the Yale School of Management are looking to hire two highly skilled and motivated individuals to work as Postgraduate Associates (PAs). These are positions that have a research assistant component as well as an educational component. The successful applicant(s) will be based at Yale SOM and join a small group of PAs who work closely with Professors Jason Abaluck, Fiona Scott Morton, Michael Sinkinson, Barbara Biasi, and Kevin Williams. Our PAs will work on Yale research projects for two years while attending research seminars, taking a class as appropriate, and preparing for graduate school in economics or related fields.
Our PAs work on policy-relevant research spanning many IO, health, and labor topics: e-commerce competition with brick and mortar, health care and pharmaceutical pricing, education, antitrust and other applied microeconomic topics. Research from the team has been cited in several major newspapers, presented to government agencies, and published in top economics journals.
Current and/or recent research projects that our PAs have worked on include:
- “What Do Consumers Consider Before They Choose? Identification from Asymmetric Demand Responses” (Abaluck)
- “Surprise! Out-of-Network Billing for Emergency Care in the United States” (Scott Morton)
- “Media Competition and News Diets” (Sinkinson)
- “Pricing Frictions and Competition in US Retail” (Williams)
Preference will be given to detail-oriented applicants with previous research and programming experience, particularly in working with large datasets, in either Python, R, or Stata. Current RAs also work in C, C++, Matlab, and SQL. We also encourage individuals with previous experience in economic consulting to apply. The salary is competitive with other research assistant positions.
