Examining the Influence of Gender Roles on K-12 Leadership

This project aims to understand the influence of cultural gender roles on the gender representation of K-12 principals. The central research question will examine explanations and potential social consequences of men's, relative to women's, underrepresentation in early education leadership positions.

Requisite Skills and Qualifications

Under Prof. Germano's guidance, the RA's responsibilities will include conducting a detailed literature review of existing research on gender and K-12 leadership, creating a database of K-12 educational leader's contact information for a future survey to be launched in Spring '26, preparing and analyzing datasets related to the central research question, and other tasks that may arise related to this project.

Attention to detail and basic proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., R) are required for portions of the project that will require cleaning and preparing datasets and databases. Some aspects of the project, particularly the literature review, may require the RA to dive deep into social science and educational more broadly. Strong reading comprehension skills will be necessary for the literature search component of the project.
