Managing Medicaid Managed Care – Effects on Patients and Providers

The aim of this project is to build a Medicaid policy library that is supportive of a broad research agenda on Medicaid managed care. In particular, we are in the process of collecting and assembling panel data for state risk adjustment classification systems (e.g. software, vendors), pharmacy benefit tools (e.g. uniform PDLs, carve-outs, other relevant statutory requirements), and auto-assignment/enrollment policies, among other state Medicaid policy features of interest for studying the effects of Medicaid managed care on provider networks and on beneficiaries’ spending, utilization, and access to comprehensive care. The student will work closely with members of the SCALE Medicaid Lab to collect and build these data following a detailed protocol, which will consist both of accessing publicly available information online as well as through the submission of FOIA requests.
