Tony Smith Named New Chair

Professor Tony Smith has been named the new chair of the Department of Economics announced in a letter from the Dean of Faculty of Arts and Science, Tamar Gendler. Professor Smith’s three-year term begins July 1, 2019. 

With fields of interests in econometrics, macroeconomics, computational economics, to name a few, Professor Smith has published extensively with his most recent papers appearing in the Journal of Econometrics, the Journal of Political Economy, and Econometrica.

Professor Smith joined the department in 2003 from Carnegie Mellon University, and served as Director of Undergraduate Studies from 2010-2013. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University and a B.S. in Economics for Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He will be succeeding Dirk Bergemann who served two terms as the department chair from 2013-19.
