College Fed Challenge Organizational Meeting
If you would be interested in joining the 2024 Yale team, we will be hosting an organizational meeting on Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00pm, in WLH 207. At the meeting, Prof. English will provide more information about the competition, and members of the 2023 team will share their experiences.
The College Fed Challenge is a prestigious, intercollegiate economics competition. Every fall, a Yale team competes first at a competition sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and then, if the team qualifies, at the national competition sponsored by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C. The team delivers a 15-minute presentation, which involves analyzing recent economic and financial conditions and making a monetary policy recommendation, and then answers questions from a panel of judges for 10-15 minutes. The Yale team has regularly performed very well at these competitions, winning the national competition in 2018 and qualifying for nationals again in 2023.
Throughout the competition season, which goes from February to November, team members work closely with our advisor Prof. English and learn a great deal about the U.S. macro economy, monetary policy, and the Federal Reserve System. Fed Challenge is an exceptionally enriching experience for those interested in pursuing economics beyond the classroom.
