Katja Seim to Join Yale

In a recent departmental announcement, Katja Seim has been appointed Professor of Economics, effective July 1, 2019. She will hold joint appointments in the Department of Economics and the School of Management.

Seim is currently an Associate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Wharton School, specializing in applied microeconomics and industrial organization. Her research evaluates how firms respond to public policies, including entry and technology deployment regulations, competition policy, and tax policy in their entry, product positioning, and pricing choices. She also studies the role of market power in affecting efficiency and distributional outcomes of government auctions to procure goods and services and sell assets. Her research has appeared in leading journals, such as American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, Econometrica, Marketing Science, and the RAND Journal of Economics.

Seim earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and her B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Franklin & Marshall College. She teaches courses in the MBA and undergraduate programs on managerial economics, public policy design, regulation and antitrust. Before joining the Wharton School, she was on the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She served as the chief economist at the Federal Communications Commission in 2016-17.
