Bans on Flavored E-Cigarette Sales: Assessing Effects Across Subgroups

Over the past 4 years, six states and over 300 localities have adopted laws restricting sales of non-tobacco flavored e-cigarettes, as a means to reduce youth nicotine addiction. Yet evidence also suggests that these products may help adult smokers quit the more lethal habit of cigarette smoking. To inform policy going forward, this project will assess state and local flavor bans’ effects on youth and adult tobacco product use, considering the full population as well as high risk groups. Research assistance is sought to convert data on local and state flavor policies in the US into an excel file for analysis, match those policy data to available retailer or respondent-level data in Stata, generate tables and figures, and carry out analyses under Dr. Friedman’s guidance, along with other tasks that might come up related to this project.
