Urbanization and Hazards in the Himalayas

Home to about 210 million people, the Hindu Kush Himalayan region is at the confluence of two major trends that together are transforming one of the most dynamic mountain systems in the world: urbanization and increase in occurrence and magnitude of natural hazards. The two primary goals of this project are to characterize and quantify urbanization using remote sensing and to evaluate the relationship between urbanization and growth of hazards, especially landslides in the region.

Requisite Skills and Qualifications:

Applicants should have strong experience working with geospatial data with programming (R or python), any experience working with remote sensing and other geospatial data, and the ability to commit 10 hours per week to the project.
