Walmart Economist (Data Scientist)

The Walmart Economics Team is a group of 20+ pre-PhD and PhD economists led by John List performing experimentation, causal inference, and economic research across issues in pricing, labor, customer, and more.

We’re hiring a New Grad Economist/Data Scientist for the Bentonville, AR headquarters.

If you are:
1. Graduating by summer 2024 with a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Economics (Math/Stat/CS double majors are a plus!),
2. Interested and experienced in academic economic research, and
3. Considering an Economics PhD but interested in data science in industry, then:

Responsibilities:  

Designing and analyzing experiments – Guide decision making by ensuring we understand the impact of potential changes through careful experimentation  

Performing causal inference – Leverage the latest in econometrics and statistics to understand the effect of changes we cannot run experimentally  

Framing and evaluating trade-offs – Define and weigh business trade-offs to drive strategic decisions under uncertainty 

Applying behavioral economics – Use an understanding of behavioral economics to inform user experience design
