Divided We Move: How Partisan Preferences Shape Geographic Mobility in the U.S.

Increasing political polarization may not only affect political behavior but also influence individual decisions regarding geographic mobility. Individuals might self-sort into communities aligned with their partisan preferences, potentially exacerbating regional political divides, reshaping local economies, and influencing social capital.

Requisite Skills and Qualifications

The ideal Research Assistant for this political economy project should have proficiency in handling and merging large datasets (e.g., L2 voter registration data and CoreLogic data). They should be skilled in statistical analysis and causal inference methods, particularly difference-in-differences and event-study designs. Competence in statistical software such as Stata, R, or Python is essential. Additionally, familiarity with natural language processing techniques is also recommended. Experience with geospatial data analysis, tax policy evaluation, and political economy concepts, along with strong organizational skills and attention to detail, are also highly desirable.
