The Value of Green Spaces within City Boundaries

This project investigates the potential benefit of adding green space to eliminate urban heat islands within cities. This project will estimate the change in consumer spending during extreme heat events, the effect of green space on spending at nearby businesses, and the interaction of green space and extreme heat on spending. This project contributes to the literature on ecosystem services, damages from climate change, and environmental justice because greenspace is not distributed equally across communities.

An RA would help with three possible tasks:

1. Cleaning and organizing census, mobility, credit card, satellite, and weather datasets
2. Merging these datasets
3. Exploratory data analysis
